Back to school Post Holidays

The first day back to a more structured homeschool day after holiday break is easily one of my least favorite things 😅. I remember vividly the feeling of “I have failed” this time last year, since it was our first year, honestly it felt like there were a lot of those moments. The kids are all still excited over Christmas gifts, moms been more laid back it can be hard to pull yourself out of “vacation” mode. Maybe you’re a more laidback less structured homeschool family that’s great, but we usually thrive with sit down book work in the morning after morning chores and coffee. 💁🏼‍♀️

So here’s what we’re doing today,

•after morning chores, we’re going to come in hot with a read aloud, the girls got a few new books for Christmas, so I’ll let them choose! Although I’ll need to link my new favorite homeschool books for you below!

•dive into our core subjects, writing, ELA, Math, will probably push off science and history till next week (although Jolene has been bugging me to do her slime kit((why did I buy that 😅🤣))so we’ll call that science)

Then snack + free draw while mama gets some housework done/ whatever else I’ve been putting off from my to do list.

Usually we’re done before lunch with our structured sit down work🙏🏽 just simple. That’s what we’re going for as we ease back into our non holiday routine (gotta say, I’m glad it’s over 😅) wild right, one second you’re itching to put up holiday decor the next your over stimulated 🤣I’ll never understand.

But the most important thing we’re adding to our day is GRACE. We are not beating ourselves up if things don’t go as planned, we’re practicing patience with our littles because if it’s hard for us to get back into a routine imagine how hard it is for them. And lastly we’re thanking HIM (and our hardworking husbands) for being on this path where we can choose how our day will look, how fast or how slow we will move. 🤍🙏🏽

Don’t forget learning goes beyond book work time when you do school + life at home together 👏🏼
